The Allegan General Hospital Foundation, Allegan Public Schools’ Swimming and Diving Program and Allegan Tigershark Aquatic Club will host the fifth annual “Strides for Health 5K” on Saturday, August 20.
The event features a 5K run, 5K walk and a one-mile kids’ fun run. The 5K run/walk will begin at 9:00 a.m. The kids’ fun run, sponsored by Chemical Bank, follows at 9:45 a.m. All races start and finish at Allegan General Hospital.
New to the event this year, the 5K race will feature mat to mat timing to provide accurate start and finish times for all runners and walkers.
For those participating in the 5K, early registration cost is $20 before Friday, August 12 and $25 thereafter. All participants will receive a t-shirt (while supplies last) and refreshments including breakfast pizza as well as fruit and yogurt parfaits.
The fee for all kids participating in the one-mile fun run is only $5. All kids will receive a medal and a t-shirt while supplies last.
Awards will be given promptly at 10:00 a.m. Trophies will be awarded to the top three males and females overall, as well as the top male and female masters finishers. Medals will be given to the top three males and females in each age group.
Corporate teams/teams division will also be featured in the 5K. Each team must consist of at least five runners and cross country scoring within each age group will be used to determine places. The top three teams will receive trophies. There is an additional $20 entry fee per team.
Free health screenings will be available at 8:30 a.m. in front of AGH’s Physical Rehabilitation Center, 576 Linn Street, until after the awards ceremony.
