The banners you see posted in the entrance boulevard and at other visible locations tell a powerful story about how Allegan General Hospital is recognized among the best places to work in healthcare in the country. The best in the country! Not just the best among small hospitals, nor just the best among critical access hospitals, nor even among just rural hospitals – the best among all organizations in the nation’s healthcare industry!
That is an amazing achievement. And something about which the entire community and region can be proud. The confidence that our patients and families place in Allegan General Hospital spurs the entire team on the Allegan General Hospital campus to reach for even more that can distinguish us nationally – to achieve more for which we can all be proud. We’ve made some great strides over the past couple of years as we’ve come onto the national radar screen, and there’s much more progress on the way too.
We’re making important new enhancements in our infrastructure and physical plant, including a new roof, new electrical and heating and cooling systems (to name a few things done and in process). These upgrades are possible because of what has been done to make Allegan General more attractive to bond investors. Getting new access to capital resources included a lot of work over the past couple of years to strengthen our financial health and develop a more sustainable business model to better serve our patients and their families.
New or expanded patient services have been developed to bring state-of-the-art care to new levels in clinical areas like orthopedics, wound care, sleep center and diagnostic services, digital mammography, surgical services for bariatrics and dramatic new help for gastric distress, and the list is growing. Our Spirit of Women membership at Allegan General is nearing 2,000, with year-round events to empower women with important health information and resources for themselves and their families — while also providing the fun of belonging to a national “movement” in women’s health. Attending signature events like “Day of Dance” in February or “Girls’ Night Out” in October is a fun and enlightening experience!
Displays and statistics about patient satisfaction are there for everyone to see in our main floor hallway, and near our Riverfront Café. We want you to see how we’re doing. And to see how much people are satisfied with the care, compassion and service they receive at Allegan General Hospital. The results speak for themselves, and they are impressive.
Through the Allegan General Hospital Foundation, we’re seeing wonderful growth in the gifts that people and organizations are giving to help with the progress and achievements of the hospital and the community. Gifts for new equipment, new programs, new and expanded health services, education and wellness initiatives, scholarships to better prepare our healthcare workforce, and much more are part of our role of “investing in the health of our community.” Financial gifts to the hospital have been part of the picture since the beginning in the late 1930’s, and that tradition continues in a significant way today.
There are many gems in the Allegan area and surrounding communities. The riverfront, the schools, the Allegan County Fair, and much more. We know that not everyone yet knows what a gem Allegan General Hospital is too. Or has seen what’s in the hospital and on the campus today. Come visit us when you’re well, and get a first-hand look at the changes that have been made, and all that’s here and that you can count on close-by. Everything on the AGH campus is here for you — a nationally-recognized resource that’s among the very best in the country.
